The Arizona Department of Water Resources recently released the first seven supply and demand assessments for the state’s groundwater basins. The department is required by a state law signed in 2022 to complete a supply and demand assessment of each of Arizona’s 51 basins every five years.

The US Water Alliance’s 2023 One Water Summit was held in Tucson on November 14–16. This annual event gathers one of the most diverse groups of water leaders in the country for a unique and urgent conversation about the future of water.

How do we inspire young learners to become creative and critical thinkers, problem solvers, ethical decision-makers, and stewards of our environment? Each year, fourth-grade students from across Arizona participate in the Arizona Project WET (APW) Water Festival program, first completing the curriculum in the classroom and then exploring and engaging with large-scale models about the water cycle, watersheds, groundwater system, and water conservation technology, and how we can conserve water.

Arizona Project WET answered the call of the mountains, with Arizona Water Festivals in Flagstaff, Payson, Prescott, and Verde Valley. The first in the series was the 17th Annual Flagstaff Water Festival (AWF).

Last week, Director Sharon B. Megdal and Graduate Assistant Taylor Simmons represented the WRRC at the 2023 County Supervisors Association (CSA) Legislative Policy Summit in Flagstaff.

On October 19, the US Water Alliance organized its 9th annual Imagine a Day Without Water campaign to raise awareness of issues of water security and to promote investment in our water systems.

More Arizonans are harvesting rainwater, committed to do their share to save water, be self-reliant, reduce their water bill, or all of the above.

In the second seminar of the Fall 2023 Indige-FEWSS Native Voices in STEM (NVIS) series, co-sponsored by the WRRC, Dr. Valerisa Gaddy highlighted the need for culturally sensitive and inclusive decision-making practices for food safety and agricultural regulations.
