The WRRC is now accepting applications for two paid internships for Summer 2026. Both are open to current undergraduate and graduate students who will be enrolled at the U of A in the Fall 2026 semester. Applications for both are due March 9, 2026. Any eligible student may apply for either or both internships. Students applying to both internships must submit separate applications for each internship.
USGS Webinar on National Water Availability Now Available
On January 13, the US Geological Survey (USGS) hosted a webinar demonstrating how to access and use new modeled water data delivered through the National Water Availability Assessment Data Companion (NWDC). The NWDC is a centralized website providing USGS model-derived water availability, supply, and use information that underlies the National Water Availability Assessment Report.
CAGRD Announces New Plan of Operations
After receiving approval from the Arizona Department of Water Resources last month, the Central Arizona Groundwater Replenishment District (CAGRD) has announced the release of its 2025 Plan of Operations. Developed every 10 years, the plan of operations explains projected needs of CAGRD members and demonstrates CAGRD’s ability to meet those needs.
Study Finds Humans, Not Climate, Main Driver of Arizona Groundwater Loss
A recent study led by researchers at the University of Arizona finds that human groundwater pumping has played a larger role than long-term climate variability in depleting groundwater in southern Arizona. Published in Water Resources Research, the study reconstructs groundwater levels in the Tucson Basin over approximately the past 20,000 years using chemical and isotopic tracer data from wells.
