USGS Webinar on National Water Availability Now Available
On January 13, the US Geological Survey (USGS) hosted a webinar demonstrating how to access and use new modeled water data delivered through the National Water Availability Assessment Data Companion (NWDC). The NWDC is a centralized website providing USGS model-derived water availability, supply, and use information that underlies the National Water Availability Assessment Report. Newly released datasets provide model-based estimates of natural water supply, including variables like precipitation, baseflow, and soil moisture, and a novel integrated surface water supply and use index.
The webinar recording is now available for online viewing. Speakers included USGS representatives Shirley Leung, Jennifer Rapp, Althea Archer, and Edward Stets. The webinar presented an overview of the NWDC and the motivation for developing it. The presenters discussed selected key findings from the National Water Availability Assessment and demonstrated how to retrieve data supporting those findings from the NWDC.
