Water History Timeline of the Upper Verde Watershed

Upper Verde Watershed

The WRRC is developing a new water history timeline project in the Upper Verde River Watershed. The goal of this project is to develop a shared understanding of key events in the Upper Verde River Watershed and present the information via a StoryMap with engaging narratives, images, maps, and videos. WRRC Associate Director Jamie McEvoy and Yavapai County Extension Director Matt Halldorson are leading the project with help from Graduate Research Assistant Luna Falk and Undergraduate Research Assistant Ian Cann. Over the past year, they organized stakeholder meetings, conducted interviews, collected archival materials, and engaged stakeholders to collaboratively produce a water history timeline StoryMap.

The StoryMap will highlight how the Upper Verde River watershed, along with its surrounding landscapes and nearby communities, has changed from ancient times to the present. It will allow readers to explore different topics and points of interest pertinent to the social, geographical, and policy contexts of the watershed. The Water History Timeline traces the region’s story from early geologic events to today’s water policies. The StoryMap is currently under construction and will be released on this webpage soon. The project is funded by The Nature Conservancy and the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust.
