Some of our most pressing global issues converge at the nexus of water, energy, and climate.  The amount of energy we consume requires large-scale energy production and, in turn, huge amounts of water.  On Tuesday, March 29th, Special Guest Speaker Charles Bayless will speak on the interaction of water, energy, and climate and the shifts that will need to occur at the industry-level to take responsibility for our water and natural resources.  He will discuss the complex and growing interactions between water, energy, and climate and explore the relationship between the Nation's largest water user, the electric power industry, and the Nation's largest electricity user, the water industry.

Mr. Bayless is a retired Utility Executive and a lecturer on Energy Policy, Climate Change and Ocean Acidification. Until June 30, 2008, Mr. Bayless was President and Provost of the West Virginia University Institute of Technology.  He has been Chairman, President, and CEO of both Tucson Electric Power (UniSource Energy) and Illinois Power (Illinova Corp).  From 1981 to 1989, Mr. Bayless was SVP and CFO of PS New Hampshire. Before that, he was employed by Consumers Power Company as an Attorney, then Director of Nuclear Fuel Supply and finally Director of Special Corporate Projects.

Mr. Bayless received his BSEE from WV Institute of Technology, his MSEE, in power engineering, and his law Degree, from West Virginia University and his MBA from the University of Michigan.  Mr. Bayless is a Board Member of Pike Electric (Chair of the Audit), Recycled Energy Development, the Climate Institute, e3Greentech and the West Virginia American Water Company and a member of the judging panel for the Platts Global Energy Awards.

He is a past board of Independent Wireless One (Chairman), Essential Power (chairman), the Ontario Power Authority, Patina Oil and Gas (Chairman, Audit), Dynegy (Chairman Audit and Governance and Nominating), Trigen Energy Inc., Thermon, Primary Energy Inc, EPRI and EEI.  In 1993, Financial World awarded Mr. Bayless its CEO of the Year Bronze Medal.  Also in 1993, the Wall Street Transcript named Mr. Bayless the winner of its CEO of the Year Bronze Medal.
