In April 2025, Coverdell Fellow and WRRC Graduate Research Assistant Noah Rios was awarded the Margaret Vaughn Award for Outstanding Service to the Community at the Coverdell Fellows’ annual end of the year ceremony. The award includes a scholarship of $1,000 and is an honor given through the U of A School of Government and Public Policy to recognize a Peace Corps Coverdell Fellow’s exceptional dedication to community service.

Rios’ project at the WRRC, “Multidisciplinary Approach to Implementing Green Stormwater Infrastructure in the Town of Superior, AZ,” focuses on building water resiliency in the underserved community of Superior, which is heavily impacted by water quality and water management issues. The project seeks to reduce dust in the air, radiant heat, and localized flooding, as well as create gathering spaces and attract wildlife to Superior and the surrounding areas.
