Webinar Celebrates 60 Years of the WRRC
On November 12, 2024, we held a Water Webinar to celebrate the WRRC’s 60th anniversary. Brief presentations about the WRRC’s past accomplishments and current programs were followed by comments from University of Arizona officials, WRRC colleagues, and former student workers. We heard from Jean McLain, Associate Dean of Faculty Advancement and Environmental Science Professor; Shane Burgess, Vice President, Division of Agriculture, Life and Veterinary Sciences and Cooperative Extension; Ed Martin, Associate Vice-President and Director, Cooperative Extension; Sid Wilson, Retired Central Arizona Project General Manager; Elia Tapia, Professor, Universidad de Sonora; Bob Varady, Research Professor Emeritus, Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy; Claire Zucker, Cooperative Extension Director for Pima County; Jeff Silvertooth, Agronomy & Soil Science Professor & Extension Specialist; Rebecca Bernat, Arizona Water Banking Authority Manager; and Peter Wierenga, former WRRC Director. Each of them delivered thoughtful and heartfelt comments about their time working with the WRRC and the ways the WRRC has contributed not only to the water community generally, but also to the lives of many individuals. The event also featured a toast, during which we invited attendees to raise a (water) glass to celebrate the WRRC’s past, present, and future. If you missed the webinar, we welcome comments and/or photos about your interactions with the WRRC over the years here.
