Audio coverage of the Nov. 6 community forum, “Sustainable Water for Southern Arizona: Current Conditions and Future Prospects,” is now available online. The forum was held at the Leo Rich Theater and was free and open to the public.

In support of the Value of Water Coalition's Imagine a Day Without Water campaign, Governor Doug Ducey designated the week of October 5-9 by proclamation as the Value of Water week. 

Next month, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey is heading to Israel to attend the Water Technology & Environment Control (WATEC) Exhibition & Conference, Oct. 13-15. WATEC 2015 will bring together Israeli and international business executives, water utility engineers, political decisions makers, and leading researchers to showcase the most advanced technologies and water-use solutions from Israel and around the world. This year's theme is "Wisdom in Every Drop." 

On Sept. 12, the Water Resources Research Center's Water RAPIDS (Water Research and Planning Innovations for Dryland Systems) program received an Award of Merit at Arizona Forward's 35th Annual Environmental Excellence Awards in the Environmental Education/Communication category. 
 

Sharon B. Megdal, Director of the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC), recently co-authored an article on Tucson Water (TW) with Alan Forrest, former director of TW and current manager for CH2M. 

Water economist Dr. Bonnie Colby of the University of Arizona (UA) Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (AREC) was recently awarded the Warren A. Hall Medal by the Universities' Council on Water Resources (UCOWR), in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments and distinction in the water resources field.

The University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) 2015 annual conference, "Indigenous Perspectives on Sustainable Water Practices," was held on June 9-10, 2015 at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino in Chandler, AZ.

The WRRC contributed two case studies to a recent report on urban water put together by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The report, "Stakeholder Engagement for Inclusive Water Governance," uses case studies from around the world to assess the current trends, drivers, obstacles, mechanisms, impacts, costs, and benefits of stakeholder engagement in the water sector. 

Drought is a regional issue, but its impacts are felt differently depending on location. Local solutions tailored to the unique needs of communities, hydrologic conditions, and policy frameworks are the most effective approaches to drought management.
