The special institute will focus on a number of key areas implicated by the relationship between water resources and development of energy and mineral resources. Experienced lawyers, energy company officials and engineers, NGO employees, and government officials will give informative and practical presentations regarding the background, current developments, and future issues related to the water energy nexus. The opening sessions will discuss both the legal and physical availability, and the acquisition of water for energy and mineral development. Several speakers will address water-related considerations in oil and gas development, including physical water uses and demands, flowback and produced water issues, hydraulic fracturing and water supply protection, state and federal regulatory developments, and issues that have arisen in recent litigation.

This program will be useful for individuals who seek further education on water issues, including attorneys, landmen, engineers, regulators, and company officials involved in energy and mineral resource development. Water lawyers seeking to increase their knowledge of energy-related water issues also will find the program beneficial.
