Water Services Director, City of Phoenix

Date: Friday, February 21

Special Time: 12:15 - 1:45 p.m.

Kathryn Sorensen will speak about the City of Phoenix's relative lack of wells, which creates a very different picture of resiliency compared to Tucson water in both good and bad ways. She will also address how this is a good thing for long-term aquifer management, but is also a potential vulnerability during drought.

Kathryn Sorensen is the Water Services Director for the City of Phoenix. Prior to starting this position in 2013, she served for more than four years as the Director of the City of Mesa's Water Resources Department, responsible for the management of Mesa's water and wastewater utilities. Kathryn moved into the lead role for Mesa’s Water Resources Department after nine years of management experience in water, wastewater, gas and electric utility service with the city. She has a Ph.D. in Resource Economics from Texas A&M University and a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Michigan.
