On February 20-21, internationally credible scientists, policy makers and citizens will get together to discuss climate issues in Tucson and Southern Arizona at the “Living with Less Water” conference. The two-day conference convened by the Tucson-based Institute on Science for Global Policy (ISGP) is focused on linking scientifically credible information to the formulation and implementation of sound, effective local policies. “Living with Less Water” will facilitate critical debates and extended caucus discussions among highly credible scientists, policy makers, students, and the public.

The first day, debates of concise policy position papers prepared by internationally credible scientists and policy makers will seek to clarify the scientific and technical understanding of climate issues for the nonspecialists. Among these experts is Sharon B. Megdal, Director of the UA Water Resources Research Center. Dr. Megdal’s work focuses on water resources management and policy, and how to achieve desired policy objectives in terms of established institutional structures and challenges associated with changing priorities. The caucuses convened on the second day of the conference will provide all participants, citizens, subject matter experts, and policy makers, opportunities to candidly identify both areas of consensus and the corresponding actionable next steps relevant to climate issues in Tucson and Southern Arizona.

The “Living with Less Water” conference is free of charge but registration is required and an invitation must be issued. To register for an invitation, go to scienceforglobalpolicy.org, and click on the Climate Change Program, or call 520.343.8181. To learn more about the conference, click here.
