Drivers of Household Water Conservation in a Decade of Drought

Tucson recently closed out the hottest and driest decade on record from 2000 to 2009. During this time, many households adopted new methods of water conservation: rainwater harvesting systems, graywater systems, high-efficiency devices, low-water use landscaping(xeriscaping), and volunteerism for public water conservation projects. Adam Springer will present the results of a mixed methods study examining some of the factors that influenced households to implement these water conservation techniques. Data collected from 656 households representing 93 Tucson neighborhoods are analyzed through logistic regression, and examined alongside the results of follow-up interviews conducted with Tucson households.
