Upper Gila State of the Watershed - 2017

The Work of Many

On September 22, 2017, the first Annual State of the Watershed in the Upper Gila was about the successes of communities working together. Organized by community members, WRRC, Gila Watershed Partnership, Graham County Cooperative Extension, and Eastern Arizona College, the event demonstrated the steps that active rural watershed stakeholders can take to understand and protect their natural resources. A mix of over 130 people including citizens, scientists, non-profits, industry leaders, local government, as well as state and federal agencies came together to share information and find common ground for future work. 

Goal

After years of collaboration and innovation in the watershed, the State of the Watershed is intended as a celebration of completed work, an update on the status of the watershed, and a call to action for the public. By creating this yearly gathering place, anyone can join the conversation. Planned by the community for the community, we hope everyone took something away from the forum that added to their knowledge of and actions for the Upper Gila Watershed.

Attendees heard from local and state experts who shared the most current information about natural and water resources in the Upper Gila Watershed. Presentations covered a broad array of topics.
