Last March 21, Dr. Megdal attended the 2023 Water Diplomacy Symposium. The symposium was convened by the Women in Water Diplomacy Network in partnership with the Environmental Law Institute, the Stockholm International Water Institute, the International Joint Commission, the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, and the University of Arizona as a side event of the 2023 UN Water Conference in New York City. 

The last weekend of February was full of adventure for the Arizona-Sonora Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program (TAAP) team that met at Quitobaquito Springs.

On May 16, the WRRC organized a meeting in Nogales, Arizona to discuss current and future opportunities for collaboration on the federally funded Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program (TAAP). 

A 20-minute presentation, Tackling Wicked Water Problems in the Transboundary Colorado River Basin, is available for viewing on the WRRC website. 

The Upper Santa Cruz River Basin (USCRB) stretches across the US-Mexico border in Southern Arizona.

The WRRC recently held a Zoom meeting to discuss issues related to water use and climate uncertainties in the Transboundary Santa Cruz Aquifer. The meeting, held on September 17, 2020, was organized by the WRRC as part of the Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program (TAAP).

The Permanent Forum of Binational Waters is hosting the US-Mexico Transboundary Groundwater Conference, “Innovation and Creativity: Strategies for Unprecedented Challenges,” October 14-15, 2020, via Zoom. Cohosts include Texas A&M University and the Instituto Mexicano de Tecnología del Agua. 

As groundwater reliance is increasing across the globe, including the United States-Mexico region, the complications of governing transboundary groundwater become more prominent. In their chapter of the new book Lake Governance, authors Sharon Megdal and Jacob Petersen-Perlman discuss groundwater governance and assessment, with a focus on the Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program (TAAP) along the U.S.-Mexico border.

WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal and WRRC Assistant Director Susanna Eden recently co-authored an article on a modeling framework analysis that incorporates climate projections for water resources management in the Upper Santa Cruz River in Arizona.
