2012 Western Water Seminar: Future Threats to Water Supply Deliveries in the West

This year’s seminar will examine the impact of climate change, federal regulatory overreach, explosive population growth, unresolved Indian water rights claims, fracking and the Endangered Species Act on the future water deliveries for domestic and irrigation use.

Thursday’s session will feature an opening address by Idaho’s Lieutenant Governor Brad Little followed by two general sessions on climate change and the impacts of regulatory overreach on agriculture and ranching.

Friday’s general session will feature a presentation by Randall T. Hanson, Research Hydrologist, U.S. Geological Survey titled, “Climate Change and Water Supply: A Model Approach”.  The presentation will examine how water districts can use this new model to mitigate and manage the effects of climate change.

Idaho’s Chief Deputy Attorney General, Clive Strong will discuss the potential impact of the myriad of unresolved Indian water rights claims throughout the West on future water deliveries.  Dylan Lawrence an attorney with Moffat Thomas will address the issue of “Fracking: More Questions than Answers.”

The seminar will conclude with a symposium featuring prominent municipal and agricultural water district managers addressing the subject of “Planning for an Uncertain Future – A Discussion.”
