Tensions Rise at CRWUA 2024
The Colorado River Water Users Association hosted its 2024 conference, Piecing the Puzzle Together: Post-2026 Operations, on December 4–6, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The conference was attended by water managers, researchers, and agricultural producers, among others. Presentations focused on the struggles facing Colorado River water shortages. Many suggested policy considerations and solutions to climate change and the impact on its users amid the river’s uncertain future. At times, discussions became heated as representatives from several states called for possible paths forward in river water management. Disagreements mainly surrounded the division of responsibility for water use cuts between basins. The conference concluded with Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton.
