The WRRC is excited to begin a new water history timeline project in the Upper Verde River Watershed! In 2013, the WRRC worked with stakeholders in the Upper Gila Watershed to collect stories and events important to this watershed and create the “Shared History of the Upper Gila Watershed” timeline. In 2016, the WRRC worked with community members to develop a similar timeline that displays key moments in the history of the Cobre Valley Watershed in the Globe-Miami area. The new project aims to develop a shared understanding of key events in the Upper Verde River Watershed and present the information via a StoryMap with engaging narratives, images, maps, and videos. WRRC Associate Director Jamie McEvoy and Yavapai County Extension Director Matt Halldorson are leading the project, funded by The Nature Conservancy. Over the next nine months, McEvoy and Halldorson will work with graduate and undergraduate research assistants to organize stakeholder meetings, conduct interviews, collective archival materials, and engage stakeholders to collaboratively produce the water history timeline StoryMap.
