Beginning on November 7, graduate students at the University of Arizona can register for Spring 2025 semester classes. Starting on Friday, January 17, 2025, WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal will again be teaching her course, “Water Policy in Arizona and Semi-arid Regions,” weekly from 9:00–11:30 am. Students will learn about water policy using Arizona, the Colorado River Basin, and other semi-arid regions for in-depth case study. By the end of the course, students should be able to 1) interpret the role of regulation, institutions, and the legal framework for water allocation and use across types of uses, geography, and time; 2) synthesize the complexities associated with developing and implementing water policies to address water challenges; and 3) evaluate how policies and policy proposals meet public objectives. Comments from previous students have praised the course for its applicability to their own work and for the many interesting guest speakers. Enrollment is limited, so register soon to reserve your spot!
