Section 104(b) Small Research Grant Program Deadline Extended

The University of Arizona’s Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) is extending the deadline for proposals for the USGS-funded 104(b) small research grants to March 27, 2024. Proposals for the USGS-funded 104(g) National Competitive Grant Program will also be due to the WRRC on March 27. As the federally authorized Water Resources Research Institute for Arizona, the WRRC administers the Water Resources Research Act, Section 104 grant programs. Proposals for both the 104(b) and 104(g) grant programs must show a 1:1 non-federal match for requested federal funding. Research personnel at any of Arizona’s three state universities (UArizona, NAU, and ASU) are eligible for these opportunities. 104(b) Small Research Grant Program

Proposal Deadline EXTENDED to March 27, 2024

Through a federal Water Resources Research Act annual grant program, the WRRC provides small research grants that explore new ideas to address water problems in Arizona and expand understanding of water and related phenomena. Researchers in the physical, biological, social, and engineering sciences — including water management, water law, economics, and public health — are invited to apply. Proposals that increase diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, and address issues in historically marginalized or underserved communities, are highly encouraged. Program goals emphasize the entry of new research scientists, engineers, and technicians in the water resources field and the education of students through significant involvement in water research. The proposal selection process favors projects showing substantial student involvement. Proposals may request up to $10,000. The WRRC typically selects 2–4 research projects for funding each year.

104(g) National Competitive Grant Program

Proposals Due March 27, 2024

The WRRC administers the submission of proposals for the nationally competitive 104(g) grant program. Grants will support research on water problems and issues of a regional or interstate nature. 104(g) grant funding is allocated into two categories —104(g) General and PFAS — each with specific research priorities and RFP. Proposals may be for projects of 1–3 years in duration and may request up to $310,000 in federal funds, and $279,000 for PFAS proposals.
