Green Stormwater Infrastructure at El Rio Neighborhood Center 

The City of Tucson’s Storm to Shade program has completed a green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) project at the El Rio Neighborhood Center. The landscape at the center was modified to capture stormwater runoff generated during rain events from the various center roofs to support newly planted native vegetation throughout the landscape. Storm to Shade builds and maintains green stormwater infrastructure throughout the city, ensuring that stormwater runoff is used to irrigate newly planted native vegetation that will add shade, cooling, and habitat to our urban landscape.
