WRRC Releases Pinal County Factsheet
The Pinal County Water Factsheet is now available! As the 15th and final installment in the WRRC’s Arizona Water Factsheet series, this resource provides an in-depth look at Pinal County's water resources, highlighting the critical role of both groundwater and surface water supplies that support agricultural production and growing population centers. The factsheet details the importance of irrigation districts as they manage water distribution and infrastructure while addressing the broader implications of CAP water reductions due to Colorado River shortages, which have impacted agricultural water use. Continued challenges from ongoing drought conditions, water quality impacts, and complex legal issues surrounding water rights are discussed, as are strategies for municipal water conservation and watershed-wide stewardship. The factsheet underscores the importance of collaborative efforts and strategic planning to navigate water resources challenges and support stable and sustainable water management for the future Pinal County.
Engagement with local stakeholders is essential to the development of the Arizona Water Factsheets, ensuring the content reflects the specific water resources management challenges and strategies of each county. For the Pinal County Water Factsheet, input was received from Pinal County, Arizona Water Company, Global Water Resources, Pinal County Water Augmentation Authority, Pinal County Cooperative Extension, Freeport-McMoRan Incorporated, and EPCOR. Additional stakeholders provided feedback reflective of their deep local knowledge about the county’s water resources and management.
