University Honors Women of Impact
The University of Arizona recently announced its 2024 Women of Impact, an honor presented annually to special university faculty and staff women “whose work drives discovery, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, builds community impact, and empowers others.” The U of A Office for Research, Innovation and Impact also honored Young Women of Impact—principal-nominated public high school students from across Southern Arizona “who are making a meaningful impact on their campuses and … communities.” The WRRC would like to recognize a few friends among the 31 U of A honorees of 2024: Professors Andrea K. Gerlak, Channah Rock, and Kimberly Ogden. Congratulations!
Gerlak is Director of the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy; Rock is Professor and Water Quality Specialist in Environmental Science and holds the Jim Brennan Endowed Chair within Arizona Cooperative Extension; and Ogden is a professor in both Chemical and Environmental Engineering (Department Chair) and Agricultural-Biosystems Engineering and Director of the Arizona Institute of Advanced Energy Solutions. These three Women of Impact join honorees from 2023, including Bonnie Colby, a professor in both the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, as well as the School of Geography and Development; Laura Condon, Assoc. Professor in Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences; Edella Schlager, Professor and Director of the School of Government and Public Policy; along with WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal. We also recognize poet and Regents Professor Ofelia Zepeda, a 2023 woman of impact, who was kind enough to read one of her poems about water at our 2021 Annual Conference.
