Earlier this summer, the Arizona Hydrological Society (AHS) announced a new Arizona-Mexico Transboundary Scholarship, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at any Arizona university or college. Eligible applicants are those whose studies focus on hydrology or water resources management in the context of Arizona-Mexico transboundary issues. The student’s research must demonstrate active management with professors, researchers, water managers and/or other students based in both Arizona and Mexico. This new transboundary scholarship is competitive, and recipients of the $2000 award will be selected by an expert review panel. The deadline to apply for the 2025–2026 academic year is August 29, 2025, and the 2025 awards will be presented in early October during the 2025 AHS Symposium to be held in Scottsdale, AZ.

Another opportunity that may be of interest to some is Family Farm Alliance’s recently launched Patrick O’Toole Young Conservationist Scholarship, which provides financial support for young farmers and ranchers who want to attend its annual conference. The theme of the 2025 Family Farm Alliance Annual Meeting and Conference is Flowing Forward: Shaping the Future of Western Water, and the event will be held October 30–31 in Reno, NV. Through this newly established scholarship, the legacy of Patrick “Pat” O’Toole (1948–2024), who served nineteen years as president of Family Farm Alliance and dedicated his career to protecting irrigated agriculture, migratory bird habitat, and Tribal rights, will continue for generations to come. Applicants must be between 18–35 years of age and active in western irrigated agriculture, whether through a farming/ranching operation, university studies in irrigated agriculture, or service on a farmer-run irrigation district board/entity. The deadline to apply is September 1, 2025.
