Potable Reuse of Water: A View from Arizona Published by Water Resources IMPACT Magazine
"Potable Reuse of Water: A View from Arizona," by the Water Resources Research Center’s Susanna Eden, Sharon B. Megdal, and Jean McLain was published in the July 2016 Water Resources IMPACT Magazine. IMPACT is published bi-monthly by the American Water Resources Association and is intended as a magazine of ideas that inform and provoke conversation. The IMPACT article was based largely on the most recent WRRC Arroyo publication, one of a series of annual publications on timely topics of interest to Arizona. The 2016 Arroyo, “Potable Reuse of Water”, which presents the story of potable reuse as a means to address increasing water challenges in Arizona, was written by Nejlah Hummer, the 2015 Montgomery & Associates Summer Writing Intern at the WRRC, and Susanna Eden. As the IMPACT article observes, potable reuse has been gaining attention since the development of advanced treatment technologies capable of producing water purer than is found in nature. Arizona's experience with treatment choices, waste stream management, regulation, and public acceptance are highlighted in the article, which looks broadly at the major issues surrounding inclusion of this controversial source in water supply portfolios.
