CAP Provides Dashboard on Colorado River Conditions
The Central Arizona Project (CAP) has developed a comprehensive Colorado River Conditions Dashboard to help users understand current and future water availability. This interactive tool offers real-time and projected data on reservoir status, water supply, snowfall, and operational shortages for the entire river basin.
Several tools are available, bringing data in accessible forms to site visitors. The Colorado River Water Supply Report assesses water capacities for reservoirs such as Lake Mead and Lake Powell, measured in million acre-feet, and reports newsworthy inflows to those reservoirs. Graphs display at-a-glance results from the Bureau of Reclamation’s monthly 24-month study projection to provide estimations for future conditions. Contingency plans and conservation efforts are outlined to report on actions taken to address shortages in key reservoirs.
The dashboard data benefits several stakeholders, including water managers, government agencies, agricultural users, municipalities, Tribes, researchers, and the public. Current conditions and future projections help with operational planning, drought management, and the creation of agreements between water users who depend on the Colorado River flows.
