As the prelude to a program for water utilities featuring Canadian technologies, WRRC Director Dr. Sharon B. Megdal met with the Canadian delegates to provide a basic understanding of Arizona's water situation. In characterizing the state's challenges, she noted that "decentralized water governance, coupled with a difficult-to-change system of water rights, makes adaptation to drier conditions and growing water demands challenging." She referred to the "wicked" nature of water problems and described how solutions are being sought in Arizona. Her meeting set the stage for the Tucson region day of the Canadian Water Innovation Roadshow: Technologies for Arizona Utilities, February 24-26. Beyond Tucson, the delegation visited several other utilities in Central Arizona, including Global Water, Liberty Utilities, EPCOR, and the Phoenix Water Utility.
