Arizona Project WET Announces Exciting Changes
Arizona Project WET Guest Article
As we launch another season of Arizona Water Festivals and Arizona Project WET (APW) programming across the state, we are thrilled to share some changes and new opportunities for 2026–2027!
We are excited to announce that Kirstyn Kay has stepped into the role of Director of Arizona Project WET, following Lisa Townsend’s transition to her dream job in Oregon. We are grateful for Lisa’s leadership and the strong foundation she leaves behind. Several team members have also stepped into new leadership roles, and we are welcoming three new staff members as we continue to grow our team statewide. These changes bring new energy, opportunities, and momentum to APW as we look ahead to an exciting year!
APW is also pleased to share a new online asynchronous water festival teacher workshop. Teachers can now complete their Water Festival professional development at their own pace and on their own schedule, while still earning a certificate. Updated resources and materials also better connect the Water Festival experience to 4th-grade state learning standards across subject areas.
In addition, APW will also be rolling out an updated high school student volunteer educator program this year. Our revamped program provides high school students with an even more meaningful volunteer experience, combining online foundational learning with hands-on training to build their knowledge, skills, and confidence as Water Festival educators.
And this is just the beginning! Our team has been working hard to strengthen, streamline, and expand our programs and resources, and we are proud to bring these improvements to communities across Arizona. Please check out our calendar here, to find out how you can get involved with an event in your community!
Lastly, we want to say thank you to our sponsors, partners, educators, volunteers, and community supporters. Your continued investment in water education makes our work possible, and we are grateful to have you alongside us for another exciting year of Arizona Project WET!
