Arizona Project WET has been teaching about the groundwater system for over two decades using everything from two-dimensional drawings to tubs of earth materials and the ever-popular sand tank groundwater model. Helping students to understand this critical unseen system is no easy task. With the support of the Arizona Department of Water Resources, APW partnered with Esser Design to develop a series of nine videos about the groundwater system. In the process, we encountered a variety of challenges and interesting questions on the best way to communicate on the groundwater system. In this brown bag, we'll share some of those questions, hear stories from the field, and show some of the groundwater videos.

Holly Thomas-Hilburn became the director of Arizona Project WET one year ago after 12 years of serving in a variety of capacities within the program. Early in her tenure, she co-authored a paper about assessing students groundwater understandings through drawing. She still loves seeing students eyes light up when they finally understand the connection between groundwater and surface water.

Kevin has been a key creative leader on the Esser Design team for over 25 years with a strong background in brand development and creative direction. He has Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication from Northern Arizona University. As Design Director, he is responsible for managing large-scale projects and initiatives, and providing art direction to both internal teams and external partners such as videographers and photographers. He works with a variety of clients spanning multiple industries, bringing insights that result in unique and successful solutions.
