Dr. Joseph Zehnder, Professor and Chair, Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, will give a seminar as a candidate for the position of Associate Director and Associate-Full Research Scientist at the WRRC.  This position is part of a university-wide environmental hiring initiative with partial funding support from the TRIF Water, Environmental and Energy Solutions initiative.

Dr. Zehnder's talk will present an overview of methods used to provide short to medium range, high-resolution forecasts of environmental parameters such as wind, pressure, temperature and precipitation. Specific examples of changes to daily surface temperature variation under different urban land cover scenarios and the influence of urban land cover on precipitation will be presented.  Ways in which policy issues may be addressed using this information will also be discussed.
