In-person Student Lunch Opportunity with Haley

In this talk, Haley Paul, Senior Director for Policy at Audubon Southwest, and Olivia Galvan, Senior Engineer at Salt River Project, will discuss the Verde River Watershed and the Bartlett Dam enlargement proposal that could increase water supplies and affect habitat. The Verde River is one of Arizona’s few remaining rivers that flows year-round. Its watershed includes Tribal lands, state parks, trails, national monuments, national forests, and diverse ecosystems. There are also two major dams and reservoirs on the Verde River: Horseshoe and Bartlett. Audubon Southwest and The Nature Conservancy in Arizona launched a StoryMap website to introduce users to the watershed and potential projects that could impact habitats and restoration opportunities: Exploring the Verde River Watershed from the headwaters down to the Valley of the Sun

Haley Paul is the Senior Director for Policy at Audubon Southwest. In this role, she distills complex natural resource policy and water management issues to demonstrate why policy is important and how it impacts rivers, lakes, groundwater supplies, and wildlife habitat. Working with partners, Haley seeks to improve the water outlook in Arizona and in the Colorado River Basin. She previously worked for UA Cooperative Extension and the Town of Gilbert water department.

Olivia Galvan is a Senior Engineer at Salt River Project (SRP). Her work at SRP focuses on ensuring water supply resiliency for central Arizona through major infrastructure projects. She is the Project Manager for the VRSMP Federal Feasibility Study, which includes managing interdisciplinary teams, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. She ensures that technical analyses, economic assessment, and environmental review align with federal requirements.
