2010 Annual Conference Workshop 1

Workshop 1: June 10, 2010
Identifying Key Issues in Statewide Water Planning

Workshop 1 was led by Ken Seasholes (Central Arizona Project), Madeline Kiser (Inside/Out Poetry Program), and Kelly Mott Lacroix (Arizona Department of Water Resources). Following a historical overview of regional, statewide and international examples of water management planning, the workshop leaders asked participants to write a chapter title in the proposed Arizona Water Plan.  Participants identified several priorities in this exercise: conservation, economics/funding, environmental water needs, public outreach, water reuse, and achieving sustainability in water supply and demand. A central question emerged from the discussions: Will a crisis have to occur before Arizona acts on statewide water planning?
