WRRC Conference Is Next Week: Register FREE for Virtual Programming

The WRRC 2022 Annual Conference, Arizona’s Agricultural Outlook: Water, Climate, and Sustainability, is next week and it’s not too late to register! Our hybrid-format conference will be held in-person with livestreaming on July 12 and virtually on Zoom on July 13–14. You can register FREE for the livestream and the virtual sessions. Late registration for the in-person event is also available online or at the door for $85 or a discounted student rate of $25.

 

Our July 12 event will include opening remarks from Arizona Department of Agriculture Director Mark Killian, a morning Keynote by UArizona Agronomist and Extension Specialist Jeff Silvertooth, and a two-part session of highlight talks on ranching, the dairy industry, Tribal agriculture, heritage crops, regenerative and community farming, and much more! In the afternoon, A.G. Kawamura, co-chair of Solutions from the Land, and Uri Shani, former director of the Israel Water Authority and chairman and chief technology officer of N-Drip, will each give keynote presentations. The afternoon also features a panel on advancing sustainable practices, then concludes with a session sharing stories of agriculture in Arizona.

 

The July 13 virtual program opens with a panel on climate change and drought adaptation, including topics such as Tribal resilience, the impacts of Colorado River shortages on irrigated agriculture, and mitigation research. The innovative partnership between N-Drip, the Colorado River Indian Tribes, and Central Arizona Project will be featured in a panel on technological solutions to pressing drought concerns. The day closes with a roundtable discussion of water policy in the region, including outcomes from the current Arizona legislative session, similarities of issues faced in California, and USDA rural development efforts.

On July 14, we will begin with a panel on agriculture, water, and public health. Panelists will discuss water quality regulations, food safety, water recycling, and pesticide use. The day's second panel features efforts to inspire future agricultural professionals, including rural agricultural and ranching training programs and perspectives from a “Next Generation” farmer. The conference closes with a forward-looking discussion of agriculture in Arizona, touching on the law, urbanization, and water sustainability.
