Develops, delivers, and administers educational and community programs for external audiences. Promotes and fosters lifelong learning and outreach activities for individuals, families, organizations, and communities.

Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements community-oriented programs focused on meeting community needs and improving life skills for targeted public segments. With a focus on water conservation education, WaterWise programming, Xeriscape, and desert plant identification, delivers content, programs, materials, and technology solutions, as needed, to support program objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform investigatory research or evaluations to identify appropriate programs or services. Prepare, organize, coordinate, and host community programs and hands on workshops. Provide technical advice and problem solving assistance related to water conservation throughout Cochise County. Annually complete community needs assessment, coordinate with community groups, update the presentations to offer wide variety of programming.

Principal liaison between community programs, research programs and services and the community. Participate with the conservation coalition and other conservation organizations by facilitating the grant application process to businesses and institutions to fund water saving devices and water conservation installations. Contribute to youth outreach program by attending and/or co-hosting, preparing and helping coordinate presentations, workshops, event publicity and promotion, attending networking events at various locations throughout the county, helping with special projects, and brainstorming ideas.

Collect data to assist in evaluating programs and services and identify needs for additional programs or services. Create, perform, and gather evaluation and data collection for all community events in order to gather quantitative data as well as collection of qualitative data from community events to be used in quarterly and annual reports that contain explanation and interpretation of services provided.

Develop communications materials to promote programs in communities. Promotion of the Water Wise Community Program's services to all communities within Cochise County, connecting with community leadership, manning information tables at various events, and community meeting presentations. Developing, compiling, writing communications and promotional literature for distribution in the form of brochures and social media. Manage the Water Wise website. Upload media, announcements, and promote conservation and natural resources.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to lift and set up equipment safely.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Effectiveness in working as a team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Water conservation experience, science conservation, or environmental background.
  • Xeriscape and desert plant experince.
  • Experience writing articles for newspaper/newsletter publications.
  • Experience with teaching principles, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of principles of curriculum development.
  • Experience with educational and training resources.
  • Experience networking with educators and educational staff.
  • Experience with digital/virtual platforms including social media, YouTube, basic graphic design, and video skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
