The WRRC is now accepting proposals for this year’s federal WRRA 104(g) General grant. The US Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources Research Act Program released the FY 2026 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the 104(g) General on September 30, 2026. The NOFO is now posted on Grants.gov. The deadline for submitting proposals through the WRRC is Tuesday, October 27, 5 pm MST.

The 104(g) General Program supports research on regional or national water issues and promotes collaboration between the USGS and university researchers. Past projects have addressed topics such as water supply, innovative treatment technologies, the dynamics of hydrological events, approaches for integrated water management, and the evaluation of conservation practices.

The FY 2026 NOFO focuses on research related to data centers and water intensive industries. The scope includes the development, testing, and demonstration of innovative methodologies for observing, estimating, and validating water use associated with data centers and other industries drawing from public supply systems.

Although this award is administered by USGS, 104(g) grant proposals must be submitted through the state water resources research institutes (WRRI) authorized by the WRRA; the WRRC is Arizona’s designated WRRI. Full proposals for the 104(g) General must be submitted through the University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) to Jamie McEvoy (jmcevoy@arizona.edu) by Tuesday, October 27, 5 pm MST.

Interested researchers will need to work with the U of A pre-awards office on the budget, which requires a 1:1 match of non-federal to federal dollars. A letter of support from the USGS is also required. Faculty and research personnel at any of Arizona’s three state universities may submit 104(g) grant proposals.

Please note: As of October 1, 2026, the 104(g) PFAS NOFO has not yet been released by USGS. The WRRC’s 104(g) webpage will be updated with additional information regarding the PFAS NOFO when that information is available.
